The elephants of Thailand have been domesticated for generations. The ancient kings of Siam used elephants to ride into battle and the more elephants a king had the more status and power he enjoyed. Unfortunately, as the world has modernized Thai’s have found less and less jobs to keep these domesticated beasts busy. Many elephants, who formerly worked in the forestry industry in Northern Thailand, have been abandoned, starved and abused. The elephant sanctuary in Koh Samui uses donations from tourists to feed, and protect their elephants and educate tourists and Thai’s about these magnificent beasts.

Koh Samui is full of beautiful beaches. Everyone has their favorite. Chewang is the most well-known but is mostly overcrowded, its little sister Chewang Noi is a fun alternative. Bophut and Bangrak have a simplicity and the restaurants are a little more high end but it's kind of spread out and hard to know where to be. Lamai is loved by families for its facilities and broad sandy surface. Within walking distance of Kerem Villas you will find Thong Son Beach, a small intimate little beach with a few Thai restaurants and a resort. Our favorite goes by many names, Crystal Bay, Crystal Beach, ThongTakien Beach, or Silver Beach. It’s a beautiful quiet bay framed by ancient rock formations and small local resorts.
